New voices in global ecology: SIU makes cluster hire of four faculty

SIU Carbondale’s cluster hire of four tenure-track faculty in the School of Biological Sciences is advancing research into global environmental change and sustainability. School Director and Professor Frank Anderson said hiring faculty as a group is a rare move in higher education, and it is an example of what makes SIU a Research 1 university in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions for Higher Education.

Concert Choir, Choral Union bring ‘peace’ to Shryock on Nov. 18 

SIU Carbondale’s School of Music students and faculty, along with community members, will gather Tuesday, Nov. 18, to share a message of peace in a free concert in Shryock Auditorium. “Peace I Leave With You: Music of Faith and Solidarity” will feature the combined talents of SIU’s Concert Choir and Choral Union at 7 p.m.

Commencement volunteers needed

Volunteer opportunities are available for faculty, staff and community members who would like to help fall 2025 semester graduating Salukis celebrate their accomplishments during SIU Carbondale commencement exercises at Banterra Center on Dec. 13. The ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m.

Research and creative activities funding opportunity

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and the SIU Foundation invite SIU faculty to seek funds to support scholarly, creative and research activities.

SIU Alumni Association to launch ‘SIU A to Z’ children’s book

“SIU A to Z,” a vibrant, new children’s board book created by the SIU Alumni Association, will introduce SIU Carbondale to generations of potential future Salukis through colorful illustrations, campus landmarks and fun facts. A book launch celebration is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the Morris Library Rotunda.

Saluki football, swimming and diving on tap 

The Saluki football team closes out its home schedule when it hosts South Dakota at noon Saturday, Nov. 15, at Saluki Stadium on Senior Day and Military Appreciation Day. The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host the A3 Performance Invitational today, Nov. 13, though Saturday in Shea Natatorium. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.
