SIU to mark Women’s History Month with events to educate, inspire
The university will celebrate women, their accomplishments and strides they have made while also looking forward to a better tomorrow with a diverse assortment of special events in honor of Women’s History Month in March.
Morris Library to host event highlighting Shawnee Forest paintings Saturday
Morris Library and the Special Collections Research Center will host a reception Saturday, March 1, to unveil paintings of the Shawnee National Forest by landscape and wildlife artist Abraham Hunter. The exhibition is from 3-5 p.m. in the library’s first-floor rotunda and will include light refreshments.
SIU Symphony Orchestra to perform Tuesday at Shryock Auditorium
The SIU Carbondale Symphony Orchestra will present a free, public performance at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Shryock Auditorium.
Mandatory cybersecurity training for those who missed it in the fall
Cybersecurity training for faculty and staff who joined the university after mid-October and for those who did not complete the fall session is available March 1-31.
Reminder: Listening sessions on travel expense vouchers are next week
Susan Simmers, vice chancellor for administration and finance, is inviting the campus community to join her for listening sessions next week for employees to provide feedback and insights into travel expense vouchers. The sessions are set for Tuesday, March 4, and Wednesday, March 5.
Slate student success updates
Since the rollout of Slate Advisor Appointments, 2,100 appointments have been scheduled. The Slate Team continues to enhance processes for advisement, tutoring and progress reports to better support students. Visit the Transition to Slate webpage to check out the latest updates and what’s ahead.
Saluki baseball, softball start their home schedules
Spring is near when you hear the crack of the bats. The Saluki baseball team opens the home part of the schedule with four games at Itchy Jones Stadium during the next week — Southern Indiana at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28; two games against Bowling Green at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, and 1 p.m. Sunday, March 2, and SIU Edwardsville at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 4. Meanwhile, the Saluki softball team hosts the Coach B Classic at Charlotte West Stadium with games against Central Arkansas at 4 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday, against Purdue at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, and Purdue-Fort Wayne at 4 p.m. Sunday. The Saluki women’s basketball team hosts Bradley at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Banterra Center. Be sure to check team schedules at siusalukis.com.
Reminder: SIU Student Distinguished Service Award deadline is Monday
The deadline for faculty and staff to nominate a deserving student for a 2025 Student Distinguished Service Award by the SIU Board of Trustees is 11:59 p.m. Monday, March 3.
SIU Today spring break schedule
SIU Today will also take a spring break next month. The last issue before spring break is Thursday, March 6. The submission deadlines remain the same. The deadline for the March 6 edition is Tuesday, March 4. SIU Today will then resume on March 17.
