The university will celebrate the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday with “Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 365.” The special week of service is Monday through Friday, Jan. 20-24.

The SIU System recently announced SIU Carbondale and SIU Edwardsville are engaging with St. Louis-based Gateway Equity Institute in a new partnership to give students impactful diversity programs.

Extended Campus has scheduled four upcoming 60-minute interactive sessions to assist SIU Carbondale online faculty and instructors, starting on Wednesday, Jan. 29. 


SIU Carbondale welcomes nominations for Sturgis Public Service Award

SI Music Festival preview is Saturday

Alumna establishes scholarship fund to benefit women’s basketball, golf

A $100,000 planned gift establishing the Elaine Gazdeck Women’s Sports Empowerment Scholarship Endowment Fund will benefit women’s basketball and women’s golf. Gazdeck is a 1972 SIU Carbondale graduate.


Saluki teams hit the court, pool  

Hoops and swimming are in focus this week in Saluki athletics. The Saluki men’s basketball team hosts Northern Iowa at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, followed by Murray State at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Banterra Center. The Saluki men’s and women’s swimming teams close out their home schedule against Eastern Illinois at noon Saturday in the Recreation Center’s Shea Natatorium. There will not be an SIU Today issue on Monday, Jan. 20, as the university observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The submission deadline for Thursday, Jan. 23, remains the same: Tuesday, Jan. 21.
